Daddy Daughter Dance

The girls came home from school one day brimming over with excitement about the Daddy Daughter dance. They COULD NOT WAIT. It was so fun to see them counting down the days, picking out their dresses and hairstyles, painting their nails for the occasion, and picking out Rich's tie. They spent the evening eating pizza and cake, and dancing with their favorite guy. Made my mama heart feel pretty full :>)

Biking

Well I had my first official wipeout on my bike. I was on a one lane road that doesn't see much traffic, coming off a slight downhill grade when I hit a bump and my water bottle bounced out of its' cage. I tried to catch it with my knees, then reached down to grab it and inadvertently turned the handlebars a bit to the right. When I looked up I was going off the side of the road straight into a bush (I looked down at my speedometer right before I hit and I was at 24.9 mph). My bike stopped in the bush but I kept going (but not before the bush tried to skin me alive!). I hit my head on the road pretty good (a week later and my head is still tender to the touch!) so I am really grateful for my helmet. Most of the scratches are pretty superficial, and healing nicely, but it was still not a pleasant experience! I was only a few miles from home, and started to ride back, but I was bleeding all over the place so I made Rich come get me. Good times :>)

San Luis Rey mission

I was able to go on Brendan's field trip with him to the San Luis Rey mission. Love that he still wants me to come with him, I have a feeling those days are numbered :>)
It was our first time to a mission, it really was pretty there! And very interesting.

This kid is growing up too fast!

Reading Lunches!

Last summer the girls and I started the book "Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons." They were 4, knew their ABCs and sounds pretty good, and seemed ready to start. The first 10 or so lessons went great, but then we hit a big block. And we STRUGGLED. My patience ran thin, they got frustrated, and there were many moments where I wanted to take that book and chuck it. We took some breaks as needed (Sabrina wouldn't touch that thing for a good month and I wasn't going to push it), but slowly we slogged through it. And then suddenly things started to click. It was pretty amazing to watch them get it and start reading SO WELL. We usually only got through a couple of lessons each per week (because I only have so many hours a day!), and we usually did our lessons snuggled up in our little corner of the couch (which more often or not caused me to doze off lol), but eventually we finished. They are doing awesome and I'm super proud of them! I told them that when they finished I would take them out to lunch. Whitney finished first and wanted BJs.
We had a delicious lunch which we topped off with pazookies. Win!
Sabrina finished a couple of weeks later and wanted to go to Chili's. I was in dire need of a shower here, but that is a whole other story (Rich and I took our car to the shop that morning with the intention of riding our bikes the 15 miles home, but 2 miles in my pedal fell off. Oops! So he continued home while I walked back to the shop to wait for the van. I thought it would take a couple hours but it took a bit longer, it was already a LATE lunch by the time I got back so she had to settle for stinky mom!).
It seems like the twins are always together, it's nice to get some one-on-one time with these cute girls of mine!

Dodger Game

Rich and the boys met up with Frank, Eliza and Zane to watch the Dodgers play. It was also Clayton Kershaw bobblehead night which was a plus :>) They got there early to watch batting practice and try to catch some balls!
For the second year in a row our favorite usher Mr. Promise gave a fly ball to Carson. They got a grand total of 2 balls this year. Not as big as last years' 7 but they were still excited!
Love these boys of mine :>)

Clean Extreme

This year the Clean Extreme started at 8. The girls had dance class at 10, so I figured we could go for an hour and a half or so. We were assigned to a Mexican restaurant downtown, and the kids started by sanding down a wrought iron fence in preparation for painting. I was kind of happy thinking that we would leave before the actual painting started, but they knocked the sanding out pretty quick!

Then came the paint. Thick, oil based, black black paint.

Paint which proceeded to get all over my kids. And me. I wish I had a picture of it but I honestly didn't want to touch my phone at that point. At 9:30 we left so we could clean up and get to dance class. We stopped in a nearby gas station bath room in a lame attempt to clean the paint off our hands but it was a no go. That paint was not budging off of us! But everything we touched turned black. I knew we couldn't go to dance class like that so I loaded the kids up in the car (with strict instructions to not touch anything!) and figured I would quickly run into Walmart to get some turpentine. We got there, and I ran around the store like a crazy person trying to find what I needed. I made my purchase, got back to the car, and couldn't open the stupid can (you needed a screwdriver or something). I ran BACK into the store, and finally found someone at the paint counter who could help me. I got back to the car and started scrubbing the kids down, and in the middle of that Sabrina got a bloody nose and started bleeding all over the place. Eventually we got ourselves presentable and got to class half hour late. Whoops. What a morning!!!

Brendan is 10!

I can't believe Brendan is 10. I clearly remember my 10th birthday and how old and "mature" I felt to be turning double digits. How is it possible that my kid is at that age??? On his actual birthday we had to take the girls to dance class in the morning, we dropped them off then took him to McDonald's for breakfast then to the library to pick out the next book of his series that he's reading. I love that he wanted to do that :>) After that we headed to their belt testing where they earned their next level belt!
After that he picked out a Redbox movie (Lego something or another) and sausages from Costco, it was a pretty chill night (Rich was working). The next Saturday we had his birthday party! He wanted to do it at Rock Fitness and it was a lot of fun.

My boys were too afraid to try it (they got to the top of the ladder then tapped out lol) but some of the boys did the high line. Honestly I kind of wish I did it but I was supervising :>)
Brendan requested a Kylo Ren cake and this is what happened. The head shape is kind of goofy, and my silver dust wasn't working right so I ended up having to put real paint on the mask (who eats fondant anyways lol) but he was really happy with it so I'll count it as a win!

I really do love this boy. He can be so sweet and helpful, and is so smart! We just found out he got into the GATE program and I'm so proud of him because he worked hard for that. He can also have the attitude of a bratty teenage girl ha ha. He really does get pretty emotional about things and it will be interesting to see what the next few years bring. He is a great older brother to his siblings, and loves to hug his mama. He says he wants to be a software engineer so he can make video games. According to the paper he just wrote in school, he plans to go to Cal Poly Pomona to study engineering and work at In'n'Out while he's there :>) He is still (very grudgingly) doing piano, I don't know how much longer I can convince him to do it but I love to hear him play. He's getting to be a big reader, he is on his third Rick Riordan series now and loves all things Percy Jackson. And Star Wars. And Super heroes. And legos :>) Happy birthday Brendan!

Crazy Hair Day

The girls have been asking about crazy hair day ALL YEAR LONG. I didn't know if they were going to have it or not, but then we got a flyer and they were super excited. We looked around Pinterest and had some fun! Sabrina wanted donut hair.
And Whitney went for the multi-colored "bun hawk."
They looked pretty silly but they were very happy! Although when we went to the post office later that day I felt like I had to explain to everyone we saw why they looked like this :>)
Later in the day we took them and their crazy hair to the park to visit with the Wagstaffs. SO GOOD to see them!!!!

Visiting Daddy

We were able to go visit Rich at work for a bit. Before he started his shift we took a nice little bike ride.

It ended with Slurpees! Then we were able to do a boat-along and hop on for awhile while he patrolled in the port. We went by the bait barge, and saw lots of seals!

It was really pretty at sunset.
The kids all got to "drive" the boat for a bit.
We also got to check out some cool equipment. Then Rich had to leave on a call so we headed out, but the kids had a great time! So proud of their Dad!
