Weekend with the Nielsens

Rich was thinking about taking the boys to Monster Jam. He was getting ready to order tickets and texted our friend Mike (who lives out of state) to see if he wanted to come. He said yes, and we were super excited to have the Nielsens come visit for the weekend! Of course we had to go to the beach. It may be January but it feels like summer!

The kids were in heaven. We came home, cleaned up, and the boys went out to Monster Jam.

As Carson, said, "IT WAS EPIC!!!" The next morning the kids played for awhile before they took off. It is always sad to see friends leave :<(

A couple late nights/early mornings with friends combined with the beach AND Monster Jam in one day MAY have been a bit much for my kids. At church after they left my children were monsters. Brendan cried in the corner for twenty minutes about how I was the "meanest mom in the whole world." I don't even remember why. I told him that if I was the meanest mom I would not have let him go to the beach and Monster Jam, he replied that he didn't ASK to go. Oh boy. Fortunately after a good nights sleep he was back to normal, seeing our friends was worth that price though!

Knotts

We took our annual trip to Knotts, and this year we were lucky enough to have BOTH grandmas with us! The day started off a little sketchy, we literally JUST pulled into the parking lot and paid our $15 to park when Whitney threw up. Gross! She said she felt fine afterwards, so we decided to see how it went. She must have just got a little carsick or something because she was fine the rest of the day and so way everyone else! She did go shirtless (just a jacket while it was 75 degrees outside) for awhile until someone bought her a Snoopy shirt :>) And we were lucky enough to run into Snoopy himself as soon as we walked in the park!
The girls had a lot of fun in Camp Snoopy, and were barely tall enough to go on some of the bigger kiddie rides. Carson was right at 48" and was super excited to go on all the "big kid" rides that he could! Still another year or 2 away from Supreme Scream and Xcelerator, but he will get there eventually :>)

Of course funnel cake is always the highlight of the day! We had gotten nachos not too long before so we only got one this time, honestly the nachos were a bit of a let down this time we should have just gotten more funnel cake! It never disappoints.

The log ride was closed (which Carson actually cried about), but the park wasn't very crowded and we walked right on to a lot of the rides. Which meant that we often walked right BACK onto them. Sometimes three times. I took them on Ghostrider once then let the boys have at it, their heads are stronger than mine lol. We had a fun day!

Hiking in the Snow

We decided to take the kids on a hike up to the San Juan Loop. We thought most of the snow would be gone up the Ortega, but there was still quite a bit! The kids thought it was awesome!
They threw a lot of snowballs!

We stopped to make some baby snowmen. Carson named his "Snowy." We got real creative :>)

he looked better in Dodger Blue of course!
And here they are at the end. The website said it was a 2.2 mile hike and should take about an hour. With it being that short we didn't bring any water, but somehow we missed a turn somewhere and ended up going 3 miles, and with our stops it took about 2 hours. My kids were acting like they were dying of thirst by the end, next time we will be more prepared :>) We finished up at the Candy Store across the road where we bought ridiculously overpriced candy. It was a great day with our family, the kids did really good and I am starting to see some more benefits of having kids so close in age :>)

Rock Climbing

When Carson was student of the month he got a pass to a local rock climbing gym. He was SO excited to go, and Rich was finally able to take the boys. They climbed up there like little monkeys and had a blast!

New Years and SNOW!!!

On New Years' Eve morning I woke up to a text from a friend that she couldn't believe it snowed. I went and looked outside, sure enough there it was! It was raining when we went to bed around 11, apparently soon afterwards it got a little colder and turned to snow. We didn't get a TON, but our old neighborhood 10 minutes north had a pretty good covering! It sure was pretty though.
I did end up being a few minutes late to work because I had to figure out how to scrape the snow and ice off my windshield. That is not a normal occurrence around here :>)

The kids thought it was great when they woke up, but didn't last for very long!
That night for New Years, they were SUPER EXCITED to stay up until midnight.  We played games...
watched the people freeze in New York and had dance parties...
 and made yummy pazookies!
Everyone made it to midnight except Whitney (who passed out while we watched Spiderman 2)
the next day the Jorgensens came to hang out with us. It was so good to have them visit!
Sleepovers with cousins are always a blast. My nieces and nephews are getting so grown up I can't stand it! What a great way to start the year off though.
