Dad's Wedding

We drove up to Fresno for my Dad's wedding. What a weird thing to go to. It was at an old family friends' house who I haven't seen in forever, and it was great to see them. Right when the ceremony started the wind picked up and it started sprinkling and I thought we might get doused, but then the weather calmed down fortunately! The kids had a blast dancing.

My Uncle Chuck and Uncle Jeff came in from out of town, I haven't seen them in several years and it was nice to catch up!
Clearly Kristi and my kids are related :>)

Here are my kids with Dad and Lisa and the garter that Carson caught. Oy vei.
Afterwards we headed back to the hotel where we had adjoining rooms with my sisters. Since pie month had started we got ourselves a chocolate satin and had a little party of our own! The kids especially thought this was awesome :>)
The next morning we went out to breakfast with everyone, then met up with my friend Stacy for a bit. She was once of my best friends in high school and it is always good to see her!

and I am putting this one in just because it makes me laugh :>)

Student of the Month and a Field Trip

Carson got student of the month award, and it was fun to go watch his awards ceremony with Grandma Powell and Aunt Kristi! This little boy is so smart, he already passed off all 1000 sight words (without even practiving), and he is doing really well. We are super proud of him!
We left straight from there to go to the twins' preschool field trip to the apple farm. They had a lot of fun picking apples!

and eating them of course :>)
Miss Janitsy read some stories and they sang songs and it was kind of adorable :>)

Afterwards we stopped at the new Cafe Rio (which is clearly not hurting for business, the line was crazy long!!! Now they need to put one right by us and I will be happy!)

First Triathlon

My friend Vanessa asked me a couple months ago if I wanted to do a triathlon. I was intrigued, but I didn't have a good bike, and I hadn't been swimming in YEARS (like since before kids). Then we found out about a local triathlon club that had a sprint tri coming up in about a month, which would be a perfect distance to start out on. Problem was, we had a HARD time getting ahold of the triathlon club people and weren't sure if we were able to join or not. I ended up buying a used road bike (which is probably as old as me), and started hitting the pool at the gym. I swam probably 6-7 times, went on 3 rides, and ran a few times. We found out a few days before that we were ok to participate, which was relieving and alarming all at the same time! It was a low key community event (which we thought we be a perfect way to start!), but I think we ALL felt totally unprepared! We did it anyways, and I'm so glad we did!!! Vanessa wasn't able to do it after all, but Toreva and Ilse and I got there at the crack of dawn to give it a shot.
Here is the whole group, some did an Olympic distance, some did the spint distance, Ilse did a super sprint, and a couple people just did the swim/bike portion. Totally low key :>) A lot of these people have been doing triathlons for many years and have completed Ironmans and other crazy stuff, I felt a bit outmatched!
I figured I would probably finish somewhere between 1:50 and 2:00, and my final time was 1:51:14. Not horrible for my first time out with not nearly enough prep. I learned a lot, and am anxious to try again sometime to see how much time I can knock off. There were a few hiccups (like having to stop and take my shorts off at the beginning of the run because they were on backwards (good thing I had my swimsuit on underneath ha!) and getting a catch in my chain about 2/3 of the way up a giant hill at the end and not being able to get momentum up to start again and having to walk my bike up the rest). I did finish 7 out of 7 for the sprint people, but I really do think one guy cheated because I passed him on the way out for the run (he looked pretty beat) then I never saw him again but somehow everyone finished ahead of me. Kind of annoying but what can you do, at least in my head I wasn't dead last ha!

The twins are FOUR!!!

The twins are slightly obsessed with the movie Frozen right now, and when I found a place that sends princesses to your party I knew I had a winner! The girls anxiously counted down the days until Queen Elsa would come to their party! They watched out the window all afternoon, and finally she came!
 she did face painting...

told stories and sang songs from the movie (I have never seen a group of three year olds so transfixed!)...

posed for pictures...
Ireland, Abigail, Whitney, Sabrina, Charlotte, Kiera, Maddelyn, Aubrey, Jewel, Ava, and Hayden

and played lots of fun games with the kids!

The girls wanted (you guessed it) Elsa and Anna cakes. The Elsa one was leaning a bit but I just told them she was dancing :>)
It was a fun party that I think they will remember for a long time!
For their birthday they got Frozen dolls (which mysteriously appeared in their cakes lol) and Frozen pajamas.
their dinner of choice was In'n'Out (hard to argue with that!)
Whitney
Oh, this girl is full of spunk and spitfire. She is stubborn, and will do what she wants when she wants to. I have learned to pick my battles with her! She likes to snuggle on the couch and read books, and play Memory and War (if you start playing card games with her she will keep you there all day if she can!). She has the cutest smile and giggle.

 Sabrina
She has about the most expressive eyes I have ever seen! She also is stubborn, and when she is telling a lie (which is quite often unfortunately, we are working on that!) it is very difficult to get her to admit the truth. Generally, after a LONG time she will start crying and admit to whatever she did. She is definitely the more sensitive of the two, and gets her feelings hurt quite easily. She also likes to have books read to her, and is still in love with Thor :>)

These girls light up our lives, and definitely keep us on our toes! We love them so much, happy birthday girlies!!!

Dance Class

We had been thinking of signing the girls up for dance class, then my friend Kim decided to offer a class out of her house. What a perfect intro for them! They were SUPER excited to go, and tried on their outfits every day.
they had so much fun with their little friends and "Miss Kim," and it is so freakin adorable to watch!!!

Orange Belts

We missed the rank tests because we were in Utah, but the instructor let the boys do a make-up test. They practiced really hard beforehand, and did great! They were super excited the get their orange belts. They had to set goals as part of the process, one of Brendan's was "to read a 312 page book" (which was the first Harry Potter book, it's kind of a struggle to get him to WANT to ready but he really seemed to enjoy that one and it was by far the longest book he had read! Then he ASKED to read the second one which thrilled me). One of Carson's goals was to run a mile with me, we tried it and it was super easy for him so we went 1.8 (which tired him out pretty good!). Now he is bugging me to run 2 miles with him, love it!

Preschool has Started!!!

These girls have been counting down to preschool for MONTHS!!! I don't think I have ever seen them so excited as the time I let them loose in Toys R Us to pick out a backpack. All summer they kept asking, "When do I get to go to preschool?" EVERY. DAY. Finally that day arrived, and they were all smiles (well, except the first half hour of the day Whitney was a total grump, but it wore off eventually ha!).

Love these girls so much, the house feels empty without them! But also quiet....very quiet :>)

Here they are with Miss Janitsy (Whitney would NOT be dragged away from the magnets she was playing with so Janitsy had to come to her ha!)
they have a fun group of kids in there and will have a blast!
and now Rich and I have Tuesday mornings ALL to ourselves. We took a little trip to IHOP, and tried to remember the last time the two of us went to breakfast by ourselves. It has been many years. It will not be many more before it happens again :>)
