Sonic and the Duck Pond

One thing on our bucket list for summer was to go to Sonic Happy hour and then feed the ducks. Sonic is always a good plan in my book!
it was a toasty day, but we stayed in the shade and the kids had a great time feeding the ducks.

Bay Day

We were able to get together with a couple of my old college roommates down at the bay in our old stomping grounds. It was so great to see B and Kara and their cute kids! We had fun kayaking and just playing around and catching up.

Life has changed for us just a bit since college :>)
 Love these ladies!!!

The kids wanted to do a waterslide one day while I was at work, so Rich improvised! This provided hours of entertainment :>)

Karate Camp

I found an awesome groupon deal for a local tae kwon do studio, and since the boys have been bugging me about karate for YEARS I decided that would be something fun for them to do this summer! They have really enjoyed it, and I can't say enough good things about their instructor (who happens to be a world champion in forms). We ended up signing them up for their week long karate camp, where the boys had SO MUCH FUN. They were there all week from 9-3, and in addition to hours of tae kwon do they also went to the movies, bowling, Mulligan's, etc. They had a blast!
Saturday we had a party at the instructor's house. Wowsers it was hot, glad he has a pool :>)
The boys really love Mr. Giordano!

Utah Trip

We had a nice trip to to Utah to visit Grandma and Grandpa Gray! Grandpa got diagnosed with prostate cancer a couple months ago, then before they did the surgery he had a stroke AND a heart attack. It has been a rough few months, and he still has a battle ahead of him, but despite it all he keeps a smile on his face!
the kids were also super excited to play with their cousins. They spent quite a bit of time making up little plays to perform for us.
the kids all got to help Grandpa with his drills, one of them is playing Go Fish to help with his memory.
we also spent lots of time playing outside!
One night we went to Cabela's to watch them feed live goldfish to the big fish. It was kind of gross and strangely fascinating.
the kids did find that store to be very exciting!
afterwards we drove up to Silver Lake for a little hike (good job Jill finding a great kid-friendly one!!!). We planned to go on the coolest day of the week so it wouldn't be too hot, but we didn't realize that the temp would drop 20 degrees on the way up to the canyon and it would be a little on the cold side!

afterwards we got ice cream which is always appreciated :>) We went to the splashpad...
and got shave ice (in my head it should be "shaved ice"  but I am trying to be grammatically correct!)
one night we played at the Jorgensens'...
then watched the Lego movie on the projector. Everything is AWESOME!!!
we got to wear our "Kristin shirts" with our cute nice Kristin...
and AUnt Janine came over to play a couple nights as well!
We also had the Cookie party in July (they started doing the Utah version during the summer when Carrie is in town, so good to see some of the cousins that we haven't seen in a long time!)

on they way back we decided to make a "quick" detour to the Up house, except my GPS couldn't find it and it took way longer than we thought (even though it was RIGHT THERE). We found it eventually though :>)
but mostly we tried to spend time with Grandpa! Love our family!!!
the kids did pretty good in the car for the most part...we left Sunday morning super early, and they slept in the car the first few hours. Then they just watched movies and read and did really good until about 1/2 hour from home when everyone lost their mind and Carson's glasses got broken. We were able to fix them but then he broke them for good later that day. Awesome.

Busy day!!!

Today was a super busy and fun day! We started off by going to our niece Abby's baptism (actually she is Rich's cousin's daughter which makes her a second cousin or something removed...not sure exactly but niece is easier!). It was a beautiful day, and afterwards we went to Aunt Kathy's house for a nice lunch and good visit with family (the kids and I did at least...Rich was worked 40 of the previous 48 hours and was pretty beat so he headed home for a quick nap!)
Afterwards we had to divide and conquer. Rich and I both knew of things coming up but somehow we didn't realize they were on the same day! My cousin Glenn and his girlfriend Karla were visiting from Washington, so my family met up in Simi Valley to visit. I haven't seen him in a couple of years, and for some reason I thought he was living in Colorado. I asked him how Colorado was, and he said he didn't know, and I felt kind of silly! So good to see him though. He is a nurse too so I always feel like we have a good bond :>)
It was fun to hang out with family!
We also went to Island's for dinner.
6 of the 12 grandkids were there, not a bad showing (everyone else is out of state!)
Meanwhile the boys went to the Dodger game. It was Carson's first time, and he was super excited!

After the cheap junky hot dogs he was used to at the Storm game all-you-can-eat hot dog nights he thought the Dodger dogs were pretty amazing.

and of course ice cream is always their favorite part of the game!
